Freeman joined Archstone-Smith in 1994 and is a member of the company's executive and investment committees. With more than 30 years of experience in the apartment industry, he has guided the acquisition, development and operations of more than 70,000 apartments in 220 communities during his career, representing over $7.6 billion of capital invested in markets that include Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Boston, Chicago and southeast Florida.

In May, Mr. Freeman was appointed as interim president of Archstone-Smith's Charles E. Smith division. The company began a comprehensive search for a president of this division in May and expects to fill this position in the next several months.

Archstone-Smith is one of the nation's leading owners, operators, developers and acquirers of apartments in the country, ranked 371 on the Forbes Super 500 list for 2002. With a current total market capitalization of approximately $9.8 billion, the REIT controls 222 garden-style and high-rise properties, representing a total of 79,040 units, including 1,808 units under construction as of July 31.
