The project includes the development of the Adrian Tinsley Athletic Center, a 84,000-sf facility that cost $17.3 million to build; a 300 bed residence hall that total 83,400-sf and cost $18.45 million to build; and, a 700-seat dining hall that cost $8.6 million to build.
The project broke ground October 2000. According to Linda Balzotti, assistant director of media relations for the college, it was funded through a variety of sources including the Massachusetts Health and Educational Facilities Authority, the Massachusetts State College Building Authority, the state's Department of Capital and Asset Management as well as local funding.
Balzotti tells GlobeSt.com that the college undertook the development because of its increased enrollment. She notes that the college's location, in the southeastern part of the state, accounts for the college's recent growth as the area has the largest population growth in the state.
The remainder of the development project, which involves another academic building, an operations center and a campus police headquarters, is expected to be completed by this spring.
