Jim Wallace of Wallace/Halpin tells GlobeSt.com that construction will begin by the end of the month, with a May 2003 opening marked on the calendar. Lane Design Group is the architect of the Baybrook Collection, which will be leased by Houston's Boyd Page Co. Wallace says leases are being finalized that will allow the center to open at 100% occupancy.

According to Harris County tax records, Steak & Ale acquired the site in 1979. The 6,600-sf restaurant, built in 1979, is situated on a 47,900-sf tract. The property's 2002 assessment is $959,310.

Wallace/Halpin is a partnership of longtime business associates, James W. Wallace and Steven E. Halpin. Earlier this year, they opened the 10,000-sf Woodlake Collection at Westheimer and Gessner roads. They also have two luxury condo projects near Houston's Galleria under way with a California partner, Silicon Valley Diversified. The Galleria projects are the 66-unit Tanglewood at Fountainview Drive at San Felipe Street and 20-unit Venti at South Post Oak Lane at Woodway Drive.
