Starwood earned a 15-year management agreement for the Westin as well.
In the making of the new Westin, developer Darryl Berger Companies, Inc., led 900 planners, designers and construction workers to blend their individual talents to create the 370,000-sf hotel adjacent to the Edward H. McNamara Terminal/Northwest WorldGateway at the airport. The property owner is Wayne County. McNamara is Wayne County executive.
The hotel's lower floor includes a 7,600-sf ballroom, meeting space and support service offices.
The hotel will feature a 9,000-sf, eight-story atrium with a 5,000-sf reflecting pool and 55-foot bamboo trees; a jet observation lounge, glass enclosed elevators, granite and warm wood finishes; direct entrances with ticketing, curbside and the airport's Concourse A. The hotel will also have a full service, upscale restaurant and bar, business center, fitness center, a total of 25,000 sf of meeting space, 26 meeting rooms and a separate banquet kitchen.
The goal is to open in the market by December prior to any other potential competitor.
