"Calvert County's pro-business attitude, educated work force and high quality of life create an attractive basis for companies seeking to expand or relocate," Calvert County Board of County Commissioners president David Hale says in a statement from the groundbreaking ceremony. "The Patuxent Business Park shows our continued commitment to economic development within Calvert County, which is important to our residents, our businesses, and our business development partners in the Southern Maryland Region."

Officials are still in the planning stages, making sure the infrastructural aspects are in place. Actual development of the park will be conducted in a series of phases, with construction of the very first building scheduled to begin next spring. "We're just starting to look at building specs, we're actually having a meeting about it next week," Calvert County Department of Economic Development spokesperson Heidi V. Rawlings tells GlobeSt.com. "The first building will possibly be a two-story spec building. We haven't decided on the square-footage yet."

While specifics are not in place, the County does have a comprehensive plan for Patuxent. "We're looking at 10 to 13 buildings on the property, but it depends on how many clients we get," Rawlings explains. "We're looking at class A and flex space, and possibly light industrial space. And the buildings will be anywhere from one to five stories high." As for those potential park occupants, no firm commitments have been made, but there is a definite buzz surrounding the project. "We have been talking to prospective clients," she adds.
