Pasadena Gateway was designed by prominent architect Thomas Landau of Santa Monica, Calif. Landau says the two buildings will be four-stories each, clad in stucco, combining Mediterranean and Spanish Revival architecture.
The development will occupy a 1.6 acre site and will feature a 9,600-sf courtyard designed by landscape architect EDSA. The general contractor is Morley Construction Co. No price tag was disclosed, but it is estimated to be about a $30 million development, based on typical apartment construction costs for the area.
The project is expected to be completed and ready for occupancy in February next year, says Jeff Ford, properties manager of the Operating Engineers Pension Trust. Rents will range from $1,500-$3,600.
Ford says the design includes 18 floor plans providing studio apartments and units of one, two and three bedrooms, with many designed as lofts. Among the facilities at the complex will be a gym and an executive boardroom/business center with computer workstations and multi media links for high speed Internet access.
The Pasadena Gateway complex is one of a number of new projects in recent years in central Pasadena, where developers have focused on infill housing, office and retail projects, including the recently begun 270,000-sf second phase of its Plaza Las Fuentes office and retail project being developed by Los Angeles-based developer Maguire Partners not far from Pasadena Gateway.
