Slated for five buildings, the campus will house IDEC Pharmaceuticals' corporate headquarters and its research and development operations upon build-out. The new development will house around 1,000 IDEC employees when completed, with the first group scheduled to move in during the summer of 2004. Designed by architect Hellmuth, Obata + Kaasbaum, the project's 352,000-sf first phase will include two office buildings, two lab facilities and a "commons" building consisting of a cafeteria, fitness center, conference area and meeting rooms. Later phases will add 415,000 sf to the campus. A unique feature planned for the project is a stream, which will run through the middle of the campus underneath an elevated walkway. The development is slated to rise on Nobel Drive, with Turner Construction serving as the general contractor.
IDEC plans to consolidate from its five current locations to one campus, according to IDEC's CFO Phil Schneider. He adds that the new campus will bring IDEC's employees together, "sparking a sense of community and enhancing employee creativity."
