The new build-to-suit Pacific Sunwear headquarters, built by Whittier, Calif.-based Oltmans Construction, features one of the most highly customized interiors of any office building in the region in recent years, according to H. Hendy Associates, an Irvine-based interior planning and design firm that specializes in commercial buildings. Hendy designed the building's interiors while DeRevere & Associates designed the exterior.
Anna Alm-Grayhek, a Hendy senior designer, says the interior design includes a custom-made surfboard boardroom table, a fashion show runway, a custom water wall and terrazzo flooring in the company's two-story lobby.Carl Womack, senior vice president and CFO of Pacific Sunwear, says the company was looking for a new headquarters that would better fit the firm's image and products while streamlining workflow. Hendy principal Kerry Wilson says the specific requirements included configuring a stage for runway fashion shows in the building's 300-person auditorium and designing two "mock stores" with a central "mock window display" so merchandisers can test marketing campaigns. The building also includes skylights throughout the design studio space to provide natural sunlight.
Publicly held Pacific Sunwear operates more than 454 retail stores and 44 outlet stores in 48 states and Puerto Rico.
