The property was on the market for about six months with more than one bidder, says Whittington, before the sellers settled on the Johnson family's offer. Joe Deal of the Deal Co. of Houston represented the family trust in the sale.
The building was sold by Winston Properties, who used the property for its business, Brown Jordan International. Brown Jordan manufactures casual or outdoor furniture for the hospitality industry. The firm decided recently to consolidate its operations to Florida, says Whittington, and put the building on the market.
Winston had begun leasing the 1970's-era property in 1995 and exercised an option to buy it in 2000. Originally developed by the Trammell Crow Co., Whittington says the building is in "great shape." The property has outside storage and the building has 7,000 sf of office space as well as 20-foot clear heights. Whittington notes that the property's abundant electrical power was a selling point.
