"We are in the process of demolishing everything and building it back out," says Kathi Kirchmeier, Synergy's marketing communications manager. Slated for completion within the next month, the project will give the firm an additional 7,000 sf, which will be used for engineering and production testing facilities. At build-out, Synergy will have more than 39,000 sf and will occupy the entire seventh floor and half of the eighth floor in one of the complex's buildings located at 9605 Scranton Rd. The additional space will accommodate an ongoing company-wide 40% increase in staff, which is keeping in stride with Synergy's current economic growth.
"The expansion is a direct response to our growing market share," explains Kirchmeier. Indeed, the company has branched out into areas such as the military, where it recently had some design wins. Its specialty is designing and manufacturing multiprocessor single board computers for VME and CompactPCI systems.
Synergy's addition comes as the San Diego Tech Center is undergoing a major expansion of its own. The 38-acre campus, which currently encompasses 645,000 sf, is planned for a 750,000-sf second phase that will consist of three buildings with adjacent parking structures.
