Hanjin last year inked a 10-year, $126-million renewal and expansion lease agreement that included the improvements. The plan calls for the demolition of five existing buildings and the development of several new ones including a 15,000-sf administration building and a marine operations building (the port could not provide the size of the structure). Other improvements include the strengthening of 2,300 lineal feet of waterside pier, three new container cranes and upgrades to electrical and refrigeration systems and the maintenance-and-repair facility.

Under the lease agreement, Hanjin is currently leasing 60 acres, up from 50 acres under its last agreement. When the improvements are completed, the Hanjin lease will expand to encompass the entire 88-acre property, which will cease to be called by three different terminal numbers. "I'm calling it Terminal 46," Port Business Development Manager Scott Pattison told GlobeSt.com in September.

The City's shoreline permit approval is appealable to the Washington State Shoreline Hearings Board until at least Dec. 9, 2002.
