Some developers and architects argue the change would limit the size of an expansion of a home or duplex, which would drive young families out of Denver and into the suburbs.

One developer estimated that if there were 1,000 R-0, R-1 and R-2 lots that each lost 500 sf in size, that could cost the city $100 million in economic development.

Some homeowners, however, say the zoning is needed, because they are tired of "long houses" that fill up much of the lots, blocking sunlight on neighboring property.
