Massachusetts Port Authority CEO Craig Coy says that this facility, which is reportedly 75,000 sf, is the second part of Massport's four-phase development plan dedicated to the seafood industry in this industrial park. The first phase comprised plants for Harbor Seafood Center and Pilot Seafood, which opened in September 2001.
Massport has reserved 10 acres of land in this area for the development of a seafood district. Massport calls South Boston a key area for the seafood industry due to "historical ties and its proximity to major highways and Logan International Airport."
The industrial park is part of Mayor Thomas M. Menino's Back Streets initiative, which provides commercial and industrial companies with financial help, technical assistance and general support to enable them to remain in the area.
