The 107-acre, mixed-use Milton Park near North Point Mall has 300,000 sf of office, 435 apartment units, 35,000 sf of street-level retail and 150 single-family homes. The project received a Development of Excellence Award. The ARC also cited four other projects.
The 93-acre Gateway Village will house the national and state archives buildings, along with 500,000 sf of office, 900 student housing units, a 200-room hotel and conference center and a new post office for Morrow, GA and Lake City, GA. The project won an Exceptional Merit Award for a Visionary Public-Private Redevelopment. The developers are University Financing Foundation and Gateway Development Systems Inc.
The 43-acre Silver Springs Village, developed by Oakley Development Co. near Powder Springs and the Silver Comet Trail, won an Exceptional Merit Award for Affordable Traditional Neighborhood Development. The project will have 141 single-family and townhome units, a village green and an office/commercial area on eight acres.
Smyrna Market Village in Downtown Smyrna, GA won an Exceptional Merit Award for Mixed-Use Development. The redevelopment venture will have 40,000 sf of retail, 18,000 sf of office and townhomes above street-level retail. The developers are G.K. Johnson Development LLC and John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods.
The 110-acre Villages at Lafayette Park near Downtown in Fayetteville, GA, won an Exceptional Merit Award for Development Design in the Expansion of a Town Center. Eagle Real Estate Advisors is developing the mixed-use project for 233 single-family and lofts units. The developer is preserving 22 acres of open space.
The winners were chosen for the ARC by members of the Georgia Planning Association, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, the Georgia Conservancy, the American Institute of Architects and representatives of the commercial and residential real estate industries.
