The 335 units offer a mix of apartments and townhomes, with the latter topping the rental range at $6,500 a month. The apartment units start at $1,495 a month, according to Michael Barry, a principal with Applied.

The two buildings are connected by a four-story parking garage with a rooftop swimming pool and landscaped deck. Independence is the latest phase in Applied's the Shipyard, a mixed-use project that besides its residential component also includes retail shops and services, a one-acre landscaped park, a marina and ferry service to Manhattan.
