"I have benefited from a decade of working in commercial real estate and look forward to working in a new industry with Home Depot," Barrett says in a prepared statement.
Tom Charlesworth, Cousins' executive vice president and Barrett's former boss, will serve as acting CFO until a replacement is found.
"Kelly has been a great asset to Cousins for many years and will certainly be missed by all of us, both personally and professionally," Cousins' president/CEO Tom Bell says in the same statement. "Home Depot is one of the country's leading companies and this is a great opportunity for Kelly."
Cousins' portfolio comprises 13.3 million sf of office, 3.3 million sf of retail, 900,000 sf of medical office and 300 acres of prime commercially-zoned land.
