In his 14-year career with the company, Overton participated in numerous signature developments across the country. Among them were Bank of America Plaza and the Pinnacle in Atlanta; and Gateway Village in Charlotte.
"Jim has offered exceptional development experience and insight to Cousins for many years," Craig Jones, president, Cousins' office division, says in a prepared statement.
Overton has spent 34 years in the development industry. Before joining Cousins in 1988, he was president of Atlanta-based Hardin Construction Co. He has managed the development of 17 million sf of office; four convention/conference centers totaling two million sf; 18 hotels totaling 10,000 rooms; six million sf of mixed-use projects; and seven million sf of retail, including seven regional malls.
Overton is also a director and former president of GlenCastle constructors, a consortium of Atlanta general contractors that provides management, materials and labor to build or renovate housing and community facilities for low-income Atlanta residents.
Overton earned a BS with a major in building construction at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute and serves on the construction board of the Atlanta High Museum of Art and as a guest lecturer and mentor at the Georgia Tech College of Architecture.
Cousins' portfolio consists of equity interests in 13.3 million sf of office; 3.3 million sf of retail; 900,000 sf of medical office; and 300 acres of developable land.
