The Thousand Oaks, CA-based company says that this 250,000-sf facility is its "largest-ever" manufacturing facility. The approval reportedly means that the company will be able to go ahead with its plans to double the size of this facility to 500,000 sf.

Kevin Sharer, Amgen's chairman and CEO, says that the approval also means that the company will be able to increase its supply of the drug and "more than satisfy the expanding patient demand for this unique therapy."

Amgen is a global biotechnology company that discovers, develops, manufactures and markets human therapeutics based on advances in cellular and molecular biology. In addition to its California headquarters and this facility, the company has a location in Cambridge, MA as well as seven other sites in the country. The company acquired Immunex Corp. this past summer.
