Temple acquired the facility, formerly called the Philadelphia Geriatric Center, in 1999. Last year, Temple closed Northwood Nursing and Convalescent Center on Castor Avenue. Two months later, it also shuttered the Elmira Jeffries Memorial Home in North Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Nursing Home, which is affiliated with the Temple system and operated by Episcopal Hospital, remains open.

The Olney facility is losing approximately $1 million a month, according to a statement by Temple University Health System chief executive officer Joseph Marshall. The board of directors sought a buyer, and, according to Marshall, thought it had found one in a Chicago-based nursing home operator that he declined to identify. The deal fell apart, however, in the final week of December.

Many residents from the two previously closed Temple facilities are now at the Olney property. Marshall says the facility will remain open until they are relocated.
