The center will open in the fall at the intersection of Staples Road and Saratoga Boulevard. There also are three pad sites and a 1.36-acre outparcel. The center will go up beside a hospital and in a neighborhood that's considered "the gateway" to residential growth on Corpus Christi's south side.
Todd O. Hardin of NewQuest's Houston office represented the firm in the land purchase, but he declined comment on the transaction. Shell used an in-house representative, John Wallace, to close the deal.
NewQuest, at last count, has another retail project under way outside the Houston limits. Its 100-plus-acre Sherman Town Center in the North Texas town of Sherman has Home Depot and SuperTarget as anchors. To date, NewQuest has more than 50 finished shopping centers in Texas.
