The current store has 145,000 sf, while the new Super Target will have 196,000 sf. The Super Target is envisioned to be the only one in Colorado that will sell liquor, says Chuck Line, community development director for Glendale. The Super Target, just off busy South Colorado Boulevard, will cost $12 million to $15 million to build.
Target owns the ground under a store and a restaurant that it already has razed to improve visibility for its new store, Line says. Target anticipates sales to rise by 56% in the new store. The current store already is the No. 1 sales tax generator for Glendale, Line says.
The Target, which opened in 1966, four years after the chain's first outlet opened in Minnesota, was the sixth built in the country, according to a store spokeswoman.
