Built in 1975, the building has 745,925 sf.
The Denver Newspaper Agency, which handles all business aspects of the News and the Post, has investigated leasing a portion of the building. It is seeking a 15-year lease, a number of sources tell GlobeSt.com.
Jim Nolan, a spokesman for the DNA, and a spokeswoman for Qwest declined comment.
The DNA wants to move it and the two newspapers, which remain editorially separate and competitive through a joint operating agreement, into one building to save money.
The newspapers and the DNA and newspapers would need as much as 250,000 sf of the building, making it one of the largest Downtown office leases on the horizon.
The city of Denver already has purchased the Rocky Mountain News building at 400 W. Colfax Ave. for $16 million, where the Webb administration wants to build a new jail.
The funding of the jail will be up to the next mayor and city council. The city has given the News free rent on the building until March 2004.The deal with the Qwest building could be signed this quarter, with a move taking place in early 2004.
