La Terra LP, a partnership created by developer Mario Segale, sold the 156-acre property to the tribe this week. The land is located near a busy highway, and the state's biggest horse racing track sits on top of it.
Northwest Racing Associates will continue to operate the track, buildings and other improvements, while leasing the land beneath it. The Muckleshoots are simply the new landlord for the Emerald Downs property.
According to the tribe's attorney, the Muckleshoots have no immediate plans to change or redevelop the land. The tribe hopes that the track will do well, and sees it as a valuable contribution to its entertainment business, which includes a popular casino.
