Tischler was formerly the director of economic development for the City of Monroe. He has taken a job as a consultant and project developer at AKT Peerless Environmental Services, and will work at the firm's Jackson and Farmington Hills offices.
Tischler was instrumental in developing Monroe's brownfield program, identified as one of the state's leading municipalities in the development of brownfield sites, with 13 projects totaling more than $180 million in new investment.
Most local governments use the brownfield plan model developed by Tischler, who obtained more than $8.5 million in state and federal grants and loans for Monroe projects.
He also organized and led the Downriver Area Brownfield Consortium, a United States Environmental Protection Agency Brownfield Assessment Pilot program. The consortium handled more than $50 million in new brownfield investment.
Tischler will now assist private developers and municipal clients to evaluate and use brownfield development opportunities, said AKT officials.
