Hensel Phelps is based in Greeley, in northern CO, and is the largest general contractor based in the state. Hensel Phelps also is building the $268 million expansion of the Colorado Convention Center, which will be across the street from the new Hyatt Regency convention hotel.
Last September, Hensel and Kiewit Construction were the two final candidates for the project. A selection panel consisting of people from the city, the city's program manager, and Faulkner USA, which is the hotel design team and bond underwriter, reviewed the proposals and interviewed each company.
The selection panel's recommendation was accepted unanimously by the city'sHotel Committee.
"While both finalists submitted great proposals, in the final analysis, Hensel Phelps' proposal was qualitatively superior," says Mayor Wellington Webb.
