Even residential spending was up 19%, at $403 million, over $337 million in December 2001, the company said.

However, nonresidential building, which includes manufacturing, commercial, hotel and recreational construction, was still down 22% for 2002 compared to 2001. The state saw about $5 billion spent on commercial building in 2001, compared to about $4 billion in 2002.

Residential projects, which includes apartment buildings, were up by 6 percent from 2001 to 2002.
