Wyeth officials have presented a redevelopment plan to the township council that calls for an 18-hole golf course and driving range, a clubhouse, indoor tennis courts and other recreational features. The plan also calls for a 95-acre wildlife habitat along the Raritan River, and the overall price tag has been put at $8.2 million.

When it's finished, Wyeth won't retain ownership of the tract. Under a prior agreement forged when American Cyanamid closed the plant a number of years ago, that company said it would remediate the site and turn it over to the township. Wyeth officials indicate they will abide by that agreement, although specifics of who will operate its uses haven't been disclosed.

The proposed redevelopment project, which was designed for Wyeth by O'Brien and Gere Engineering of Edison, NJ, covers that last significant portion of what was once one of American Cyanamid's largest chemical plants. Other substantial portions have been redeveloped as the Bridgewater Promenade, a regional shopping complex, and as the county-owned Commerce Bank Ballpark, home of minor league baseball's Somerset Patriots.

Wyeth, formerly known as American Home Products, produces a wide range of prescription medications, as well as such over-the-counter products as Advil, Robitussin and Centrum.
