The average room rate in 2002 was $95.62, compared with $96.54 in 2001. The report shows that the resort town of Vail was one of the hardest hit areas last year. It had an occupancy rate of only 49.6% in 2002, compared with an occupancy rate of 57.4% in 2001.
However, the average room rate was up slightly in Vail last year, averaging $205.53, compared with $201.77 in 2001. In Aspen, the average occupancy rate last year was 53.1%, compared with 54.1 percent in 2001. The average room rate in 2002 was $273.39, down slightly from $275.87 in 2001.
