The 50,000-sf former Englander's store on State Street across from Briarwood Mall will be completely renovated into a two-story self storage facility with state-of-the-art climate and access control and security systems, says John Hamburger, Broder & Sachse VP. The façade on the 1970s-era building will also be updated. Construction manager Sachse Construction will begin work on the project, called State Street Self Storage, by March 1, Hamburger says.
Future plans for the development include three new self-storage buildings: a 36,000-sf, two-story facility and a 3,000-sf and a 1,600-sf one-story building. The site will also include a residence for a live-in property manager, Hamburger says.
The company also just completed a new 10,000-sf shopping center at 7070 Miller Rd. in Swartz Creek, MI. Swartz Creek Shopping Center, which abuts an existing Kroger store, has signed tenants including Blockbuster Video, H&R Block, BoRics and Check N Go.
Approximately 1,250 sf still remains available for lease, most likely by a single tenant. The project should be ready for occupancy this month, when individual tenants complete their construction build-out, he adds. The center is being developed in partnership with Landmark Commercial Real Estate Services, the Farmington Hills retail brokerage firm that leased the property.
