Proposals include the creation of 7,250 homes and 3 million sf of commercial, retail and leisure buildings as well as public buildings. The scheme has been designed around five villages, each with homes, a school, community facilities and open space. Over 200 acres has been set aside for parkland and lakelands.
The development will be one of the biggest regeneration projects in the UK and will be integrated into the new international and domestic station on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link at Ebbsfleet. A new Fastrack scheme will link Eastern Quarry to Ebbsfleet and Bluewater shopping centre. In addition work to widen the A2 is already in progress.
Francis Salway, Chief Executive of Land Securities Development said: "Our plans for Eastern Quarry, which falls within the Thames Gateway, will provide thousands of urgently needed new homes and tens of thousands of jobs. Land Securities' development expertise and large-scale regeneration skills backed by the financial strength of the Group leave us confident in our ability to deliver these exciting proposals over the next 25-years."
