With the delay, a new mayor and mostly new City Council will be able to re-evaluate the options for the hotel. DIA is one of the few major international airports in the country without a hotel at the terminal.
Webb also says the bond markets aren't receptive to such a hotel at this time.
Webb, however, says the city will continue to pursue building the new 1,100-room Hyatt Regency convention center hotel across from the ongoing $268 million doubling of the size of the Colorado Convention Center.
Andrew Hudson, aide to Webb, tells GlobeSt.com that the two hotels are completely different, with different economic roles, so the two shouldn't be compared.
Glen Sibley, VP and general manager of Corporex Colorado, which recently opened a $24 million, 176-suite Embassy Suites hotel near DIA, says he supports Webb's decision on the Westin.
"I agree with everything he said," Sibley tells GlobeSt.com. "I think he made the right decision."
