The deal marks the relocation of Barr's executive offices and a total of 145 employees from a 45,000-sf facility it has leased since 1993 in Blauvelt, NY, just 20 miles to the north of here. The tenant was represented by A. Mitti Liebersohn, executive vice president, senior director Jeffrey Heller and associate Aaron N. Block of Cushman & Wakefield. The Cranford, NJ-based Mack-Cali was represented in-house by Michael Grossman, executive vice president, and Christopher DeLorenzo, senior director of leasing.

"Over the past several years, we have outgrown our leased administrative headquarters and have been considering a number of options, including constructing a new facility," according to Bruce L. Downey, Barr's chairman and CEO. "The Woodcliff Lake site met our current and anticipated needs, and was immediately available. The facility is more accessible for our employees and customers."

Barr, which specializes in generic and proprietary therapeutics for cancer, heart disease and female healthcare treatment, as well as antibiotics, psychotherapeutics and pain management, already has a major presence in the Garden State. Its existing facilities include a specialized manufacturing facility in Northvale, NJ and proprietary research operations in Plainsboro, NJ. Elsewhere, the company has a major manufacturing and national distribution center in Forest, VA and manufacturing operations in Cincinnati, OH.

Barr Labs, which has 1,200 employees overall, also owns a 40-acre campus in Pomona, NY, just north of its current executive offices in Blauvelt. The site's two buildings, totaling 125,000 sf and housing 325 employees, serve as an administrative center and as the headquarters for the company's generic research and development organization.

"We remain committed to our New York operations," says Downey. "We will continue to invest in the expansion of those facilities. We are currently in the midst of an $8 million, two-year expansion of our operations at the Pomona site."
