At the same time, Tom G. Charlesworth becomes CFO and will continue as executive vice president and chief investment officer. Michael A. Quinlan, vice president and controller at JDN Realty Corp., joins Cousins as a senior vice president.
DuPree will work with Cousins division presidents Craig Jones, office; Joel Murphy, retail; and Bruce Smith, land, to broaden the company's portfolio of 13.3 million sf of office; 3.3 million sf of retail; 900,000 sf of medical; and 300 acres of undeveloped land.
The former president and chief operating officer of 45-year-old Cousins left the firm in March 2001 to become CEO of Barr. Started in 1995 by developers Hal Barry and Chris Schoen, Barry has a development and renovation portfolio of 2.8 million rentable sf in Atlanta, Dallas, Birmingham, AL and Charlotte.
DuPree expects Barry and Cousins to collaborate on future deals. "We have created a win-win situation for both companies, with Barry receiving additional access to capital and resources that will broaden the company's reach, and Cousins having the opportunity to participate in more quality development activities," DuPree says.
During his nine years at Cousins, DuPree held various positions including senior vice president, senior executive vice president and president and chief operating officer. Prior to his Cousins' stint, DuPree was president of New Market Cos. Inc., an Atlanta-based retail development and management company acquired by Cousins in 1992.
At Cousins, Quinlan will report to Charlesworth, who will report to Thomas Bell, president/CEO.
