The center will include an 88,000-sf Kohl's department store and adjacent 26,000 sf adjacent earmarked for a complementary retailer, with the remaining space designated for restaurants and smaller retailers. Newbury Park Gateway is on 12 acres, bounded by Newbury Road and Kelly Road, and adjacent to the 101, the area's major thoroughfare. Designed by Behr Brower Architects, the center is scheduled to open at the same time as the Kohl's store in March 2004.
According to Neil Haltrecht, president of Robertson Properties, the development is the third that the company is developing for Kohl's in Southern California and is Robertson's second retail center under construction in Ventura County. Farther north in the city of Ventura, the developer expects to complete the 276,000-sf Ventura Gateway soon. That center, which is scheduled to open in March, also will be anchored by Kohl's. Besides Kohl's, Ventura Gateway will include a Barnes & Noble, Pier 1, Linens 'N Things, Michaels, PetsMart, Famous Footwear, Macaroni Grill, other restaurants and smaller shops. Robertson's third Kohl's development will open in Lakewood, CA in March.
