At Tuesday night's city council meeting, workers and patrons from the Kiva Retreat House, a clothing-optional, New Age retreat center, pleaded with city council members to downsize a proposed affordable housing project next door. The group argued that a 53-unit project would disturb the peace and serenity of the retreat center.
However, the council voted 6-0 to approve the Water Street development, stating that affordable housing is its first priority. This approval gave the green light to developer William Brooks to build the multimillion development as designed. In addition to the residential units, Brooks will also build about 950-sf of commercial and office space on the site.
