Uni-Build recently received the nod from this city, located just west of Newark, as designated developer for the project, which city officials hope will spark a redevelopment. For one thing, the city is sorely in need of a hotel – the last one, the old Hotel Suburban, closed more than 30 years ago.

The downtown site will need some work: It's currently occupied by two vacant office buildings that will have to be razed. Both of the buildings and the site fell into city ownership a number of years ago through a foreclosure.

What Uni-Build has planned is a four-story structure operated by Hampton Inns, which is a division of Hilton. One interesting on-site feature will be a hospitality training school with a curriculum of hotel and restaurant management classes. Uni-Build has lined up the Myrtle Beach, SC-based American Hospitality Academy to operate the facility.

If all goes as planned, company and city officials are targeting the first quarter of 2005 for a grand opening.
