The deal was arranged on behalf of Maher by Sean P. Brady of Cushman & Wakefield of NJ, East Rutherford, and by Michael Burgio of C&W's Manhattan office. The duo also led the site search that brought the company to the newly constructed, 258,000-sf Connell Corporate Center IV as the building's initial tenant. When it's built out, the 170-acre Connell Corporate Center will consist of six buildings totaling more than 1.75 million sf.
The site search itself covered four counties in Northern and Central NJ, with this Union County location getting the nod largely because of its proximity to the Maher's facilities at the Port of Elizabeth, NJ. The latter combines with adjoining facilities in Newark to form one of the largest ports on the East Coast.
"Maher maintains a dominant presence at the Port of Elizabeth," Brady explains. "The company recently renewed its commitment there by signing a 30-year terminal lease and has launched an extensive renovation of its facilities. This new headquarters in Berkeley Heights provides a concentrated regional operation and ease of access between the two locations."
