Kravco officials also say the project is a response to new retail development activity in Atlantic City, which lies less than 20 miles to the east. That activity includes the Cordish Co.'s $60-million outlet center the Walk, along with the $80-million redevelopment of the former Shops at Ocean One on the boardwalk, and the retail component of the Tropicana Hotel's $225-million expansion.

The Hamilton Mall re-do, while largely cosmetic, will be highlighted by an opening of the property's food court, which is largely hidden from the view of main mall traffic. According to company officials, obstructions--namely, several storefronts--will be demolished to make the court more visible and accessible.

Hamilton Mall, which opened in the late 1980s, has a total of some 140 small tenants. Its anchor trio is made up of JC Penney, Macy's and Sears.
