The company has four locations in the Greater Boston area, including a 40,000-sf warehouse store here as well as stores in Reading, Brighton and Framingham. According to Frugal Fannie's Website, the other three locations range in size from 25,000 to 80,000 sf. A company representative tells GlobeSt.com that all the sites were leased.
Frugal Fannie's began in the early 1970s as a small chain of women's fashion boutiques. It remained a private, family-operated company and didn't expand out of the Greater Boston area until a few years ago. But the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 along with a staggering economy forced the company to close the four Washington DC-area stores by March 2002.
