Town officials are confident that Fleet will develop the site into a major office park and hotel complex. According to Norton town manager James Purcell, Fleet has gone through the state's environmental process and the site is zoned for commercial and hotel use. He tells GlobeSt.com that the property is permitted to be developed with up to 500,000 sf of office space. The town is largely residential and, as Purcell says, a commercial project of this size would be "huge."
Fleet Bank acquired the currently-vacant parcel when it merged with Bank of Boston, which got the property as part of a foreclosure. Calls to Fleet were not returned by deadline, but Purcell says Fleet is currently seeking developers for the site. He points out that the land already has water and sewer hookups and is near the Tweeter Center and Routes 495 and 95. "It is prime real estate," notes Purcell.
