The scheme will comprise four development plots bounded by Moor Street Queensway; Bartholomew Street and Masshouse Lane, which together total 5.75 acres. Outline planning consent for the redevelopment of the site was granted in August 2002 for a 110,000-sf hotel on plot 4; 60,000 sf of development including residential and retail/leisure hotel on Plot 5; 460,000 sf of development including a 65,000 sf foodstore and offices; residential; retail and leisure on plot 6 and 215,000 sf of offices and student accommodation on plot 8.
.The projects will be required to complement the scheme for the first phase of Masshouse, designed architect Ted Cullinan for David McLean Developments.
Birmingham City Council's Eastside Director Richard Green said: "We were not prepared to proceed with any scheme which did not match up to our very high standards and of all the proposals which we received there were two which stood out."
