Dan Ray, SVP and managing director of GMAC's Commercial Holding's Global Project Finance Group, who handles all of the company's military base financing, last year invested more than $800 million in military housing.

That makes him the largest player in the $7 billion plan to revamp military housing, which is out-dated and badly needing repairs.

Ray, who was an officer for 10 years in the Army, understands the need for new housing. So far, his group has financed 60% of all of the military housing projects in the country, since Congress passed legislation allowing the privatization of housing in 1996.

One relatively small project Ray has his eye on would be new housing for Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora, CO.

That project for 332 new units on 65 acres will likely cost about $50 million, he said. He expects a Request For Proposal to be issued shortly.

Although his group has financed military housing across the country, Buckley would mark his first Colorado investment.

"It's just down to the east of us," Ray tells GlobeSt.com from his downtown Denver office. "I wouldn't have to get on a plane."

Ray, however, says that Denver is the ideal headquarters for his group. "Thanks to DIA, I can get to either coast easily," Ray tells GlobeSt.com. "And the quality of life in Denver is great for myself and my family."
