The planning commission's action followed a review earlier this month by the Rancho Cucamonga design review committee, which approved the overall design of the Robinsons-May building. To further expedite the process, the planning commission has now given Robinsons-May a green light to begin construction.
The anchor tenant's plans call for the construction of a two-story, 180,000-sf department store at the south end of the mall property. The building will be located on the south side of South Main Street, with the store's north entrance facing the "Town Green," an open space area that will be a central feature to the entire project.
Victoria Gardens is an open-air regional lifestyle and entertainment center that is scheduled to open in fall 2004 at the northwest corner of Foothill Boulevard and Interstate 15. Other announced anchors for the development include an AMC Theatres 16-screen megaplex, a Macy's department store, and the 65,000-sf Rancho Cucamonga Cultural Center and Library. The developers plan to announce a fifth anchor for the project, which is designed as a main street and new downtown in Rancho Cucamonga that will include more than 100 retailers on 147 acres.
