The total amount averages $1.08 million per community. MARTA station areas won 20% of the funds that will help metro Atlanta communities to create active retail, commercial and multifamily ventures in blighted corridors.
Decatur, GA in DeKalb County won the largest grant, with $3 million. The money will be used to build a new parking deck. Apartments, condos and commercial space will be developed on the surface parking lot now being used by the city.
Suburban Roswell, GA is receiving $2.2 million. The city plans to attract new development by converting a stretch along Alpharetta Road (GA 9) between Holcomb Bridge Road and Norcross Street into a commercial corridor.
Downtown Marietta, GA is getting $1.2 million. The bulk of the money will be used for streetscape and pedestrian walkways along Roswell Street and within the town center.
Other fund recipients are Avondale MARTA Station, $3 million; Atlanta-Bolton Road improvements, $900,000; Downtown Canton, GA, $1.2 million; Atlanta Old Fourth Ward, $144,000; Cumberland-Main Street creation, $2.4 million; Downtown Douglasville, GA, $320,000; Downtown Duluth, GA, $356,000. Emory Village, DeKalb County, $2.2 million; Downtown Fayetteville, GA, $1.5 million; Downtown Forest Park, GA, $1.5 million; Atlanta-Greenbriar area redevelopment, $600,000.
Also: Hapeville, GA, $1.6 million; Downtown Mabelton, GA, $800,000; Northlake, DeKalb County, $1 million; Peachtree City, GA, $320,000; Perimter Center improvements to three MARTA stations, $1.8 million; Downtown Powder Springs, GA, $1 million; Fulton County improvements to Sandtown area, $200,000; Sandy Springs, GA, $100,000; Downtown Stockbridge, GA, $1.1 million; Downtown Suwanee, GA, $904,000; and Atlanta improvements to west end MARTA station, $590,000.
