Lord John Montagu, whose family is credited with discovering the Sandwich Islands, now known as Hawaii, and London-born entrepreneur Robert Earl, co-founder of Orlando-based Planet Hollywood International Inc., are partnering in a $2 million capital investment called the Earl of Sandwich Shops.
The first of a chain of global restaurants expects to start interior construction in July in the leased space formerly occupied by Gourmet Pantry, area retail brokers familiar with the deal tell GlobeSt.com. The deal took three years to come together.
Brokers estimate the lease is for at least five years at an estimated aggregate rent of $1 million, based on an effective annual rent of $25 per sf.
The new sandwich shop, which will seat 220 and have a staff of 50, is expected to be another magnet to attract British tourists who make up a large portion of Disney visitors each year, hospitality industry consultants tell GlobeSt.com. In London, the Earl of Sandwich Shops operate only as a delivery service. Other Earl of Sandwich Shops are planned for New York and Chicago.
