Despite a concern from one commissioner that Wal-Mart'sstructure would be another unappealing big box on the Clermontlandscape, the city's planning and zoning commission has votedunanimously for the project. The supercenter will include a gardencenter and a surface parking area to accommodate 1,000 cars at thenorthwest corner of U.S. 27 and Johns Lake Road.

Wal-Mart architect Boyd W. Rau of Kansas City, KS told thecommission he is designing Mediterranean-styled arches andmaterials to downplay Wal-Mart's traditional big-box appearance.Wal-Mart officials wouldn't comment on the estimated cost of thesupercenter. But area industrial brokers and construction industryestimators familiar with the proceedings tell GlobeSt.com theestimated hard construction cost will be at least $75 per sf or atotal $16.4 million.
