Despite a concern from one commissioner that Wal-Mart's structure would be another unappealing big box on the Clermont landscape, the city's planning and zoning commission has voted unanimously for the project. The supercenter will include a garden center and a surface parking area to accommodate 1,000 cars at the northwest corner of U.S. 27 and Johns Lake Road.
Wal-Mart architect Boyd W. Rau of Kansas City, KS told the commission he is designing Mediterranean-styled arches and materials to downplay Wal-Mart's traditional big-box appearance. Wal-Mart officials wouldn't comment on the estimated cost of the supercenter. But area industrial brokers and construction industry estimators familiar with the proceedings tell GlobeSt.com the estimated hard construction cost will be at least $75 per sf or a total $16.4 million.
