Despite a concern from one commissioner that Wal-Mart'sstructure would be another unappealing big box on the Clermontlandscape, the city's planning and zoning commission has votedunanimously for the project. The supercenter will include a gardencenter and a surface parking area to accommodate 1,000 cars at thenorthwest corner of U.S. 27 and Johns Lake Road.

Wal-Mart architect Boyd W. Rau of Kansas City, KS told thecommission he is designing Mediterranean-styled arches andmaterials to downplay Wal-Mart's traditional big-box appearance.Wal-Mart officials wouldn't comment on the estimated cost of thesupercenter. But area industrial brokers and construction industryestimators familiar with the proceedings tell theestimated hard construction cost will be at least $75 per sf or atotal $16.4 million.
