With the new facility will come an additional 858 new jobs for area residents. "This growing company currently employs nearly 2,300 associates, of which 1,300 are Virginians," Gov. Mark R. Warner notes. The nine-year-old company also has operations in the Florida, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, and Washington, DC. Currently, Amerigroup's employees in Virginia work out of offices spread out among a variety of different locations accounting for about 200,000 sf in space. "The new buildings will accommodate the company's growth, specifically the more than 800 jobs we expect to create here over the next few years," Amerigroup's Amy Sheyer tells GlobeSt.com.

In addition to its diverse workforce, Virginia Beach--as well as other local and state organizations--will provide additional services to help Amerigroup get its new facility up and running properly. The company will receive $1.45 million in the form of a grant from the Governor's Opportunity Fund, and it will be able to take advantage of workforce training and retraining services from the Virginia Department of Business Assistance. The City of Virginia Beach Department of Economic Development and the Virginia Beach Development Authority also participated in the campaign to entice Amerigroup into expanding in the area.
