To be eligible for program funds, the property owner has todemonstrate that 'significant improvements' will be made via theproposed project. All improvements must be approved by the city'sPlanning Department and carried out within existing city code andspecifications. The designated site must be an existing commercialbusiness orproperty located in Original Aurora.

Special consideration is given to projects that help createnewemployment opportunities for area residents.As a partner in theproject, the city of Aurora provides technicalassistance andproject oversight.

The Community Development Division puts the project out for acompetitive bid process and oversees the work-from thearchitectural drawings to the construction. All work must beapproved by the city before the contractor is paid. The grant canbe applied to nearly all manner of a building'sexteriorimprovements: façade renovation, landscaping and new signage. Thegrants do not require repayment, but the project must befirstapproved by the city.
