It was built in 1918 by Spencer Penrose and quickly became a favorite of presidents, celebrities and dignitaries from around the world.
The Broadmoor boasts it is the longest running consecutive winner of both the Mobil Travel Guide Five-Star and AAA Five-Diamond awards. It has received the Mobil Five-Star rating for 43 consecutive years and the Five-Diamond award for 27 years. It received both awards each year since their inception.
"When Julie and Spencer Penrose came up with the concept of The Broadmoor," says Broadmoor President Steve Bartolin, "There was a master plan to create the grandest resort in the West. Under their guidance, The Broadmoor continually evolved, reinventing itself many times over. Now, with the total commitment and support of the Gaylord family, (the current owners) we have completed the vision begun in 1918."
