Dave Cressman, Tewksbury's town manager tells GlobeSt.com that Mills has an option to purchase the property. He notes that the project is a good fit for the town, which he says is "kind of the retail center of Merrimack Valley." He points out that there is a 100,000-sf Home Depot, a 100,000-sf Wal Mart and a shopping plaza that houses a 100,000-sf KMart all within site distance of each other on Route 38. Mills' project would be located on the other side of town and Cressman believes it "could be a good thing" for the town.

The selectman's committee will make a recommendation to the town. The plan will require a new interchange on Route 93 and the site needs to be rezoned from single family residential to new development area to accommodate the mall.

The project comes more than two years after Mills's proposal to build a 1.1 million sf shopping center at the former naval air station in South Weymouth fell apart.
